Sek's Professional Commitment
Sek employs certified counselors and social workers who review
and lend their professional expertise to all works produced by the
company. Sek is by no means a counseling service and if a child is
in a crisis we encourage seeking professional help. Sek does
however encourage, motivate and direct youth toward a positive
response to life.
Sek's Main Thought
One main thought Sek try to convey to its subscribes and in a great
deal of the work produced is; it's not as important what life brings
your way, but most importantly is how you respond to it. Sek
attempts to offer options to youth that may not have been considered
in the pass when addressing adversities.
How Sek Was Originated
Sek originated 15 years ago when several social workers employed
in a drug treatment program, was faced with redirecting the lives of
their clients, they soon discovered that many clients as youth didn't
realize they had choices in life. They discovered that the clients
entire lives were based on impulse reactions to daily living. With
this valuable knowledge Sek organized with the goal of providing
this simple concept to youth. Since then Sek has developed into a
powerful instrument in combating, and challenging youth to look
deeper inside themselves for answers in life.
Reaching Youth
One of the challenges Sek was faced with in its early inception was
how to reach youth in a way they would respond to positively. As
social workers it was clear that simply verbalizing concerns to youth
doesn't always reap the desired benefit. You risk them becoming
combative or worst shutting down. Sek sought to create an avenue
that would 1) have a long lasting effect 2) provide reinforcement 3)
reduce resistance and 4) provide a calming escape. We believe we
met this challenge through our programs of impacting youth solely
by written communication. Written communication is one of the
strongest forms of communication. Youth can process what they've
read without putting up defenses. They can revisit what's been
written time and time again. People tend to respond positive to
feedback from a non-bias outside source. The final attention
grabber was to mail all material sent out, this is an important
component because youth enjoy receiving mail, and it encourages a
positive response.
The Adult/Parent Role
While Sek make every effort to redirect, motivate and support the
youth, our biggest success comes from those children whose
parents reinforce the principle of the scroll, share thoughts with
"things I Know" , and express their feelings in birthday wish. Not all
children have parental support and do use Seks' messages to
redirect their lives, we encourage parent participation in every aspect
of the child's life.
